I posted this in that thread, but that's an entirely misleading statement.

Bartenders are within their legal right to refuse service to anyone, including pregnant women. They are not within their legal right to refuse service to women on the grounds that they are pregnant, though, just as they are not within their legal right to refuse service to men because they are black.

Antidiscrimination laws don't actually give protected categories some sort of carte blanche; they just make certain criteria for refusing service illegal.

And, in the case of pregnant women, there is absolutely no evidence to suggest that drinking in moderation affects healthy fetal development. There's a lot of evidence demonstrating that heavy or chronic drinking does, and a lack of any medical consensus on a safe cutoff point, so you'll often find mainstream recommendations of abstinence "just to be safe," but this can't be considered sound medical advice-- it's more of a CYA on the part of the medical establishment than an evidence-based guideline for leading a healthy life.
