Although there are women who assist the men's movement, and a larger group who have lent a hand on specific issues, the number of women who could reasonably be called MRAs is vanishing small, especially compared to the number of male feminists—both in raw numbers and percentage of total. The FRM [fathers' rights] does considerably better as there are far more women who suffer under anti-father practices than who suffer from anti-male ones, e.g., 2nd wives, the paternal family, etc.

As for the validity of Glenn's list, I'd have to look deeper at some of the individuals. For instance, Cathy Young is not even a dissident feminist, just a reasonable one. Entitled "Are Men Victims Too?" chapter 9 of her book Ceasefire! is, to say the least, uncharitable toward the MRM, which she views as negatively as organized feminism.

Men have been dogged for so long, and the MRM disparaged by so many women, that when a woman shows the least bit of sympathy for the injustices we endure, we fall all over ourselves in gratitude. Like a dog that has been beaten too often. I say give them their props, but don't make saints of them: women still have very far to go if they're going match even a tenth of the support men gave the women's movement.

Bettina Arndt deserves top place on this list. She's an Australian writer who has copped heaps in the press for supporting men. Her heart really is in the right place. She has pointed out why feminists are wrong on the wage gap, why feminists are wrong on the work gap, and why feminists are wrong on women withholding sex from their husbands in marriage (this last one provoked shrieks of rage from the feministi).

Well, the question is why are they helping men and boys and interested in male issues.

Most of those women either have husbands or sons and probably many have brothers, that are effected and that's why they care. They only care about something that harms or benefits them, not about men.

Just looking at this list I am not convinced they help men to help men because men are people deserving of their rights as humans. Nope, many seem to be helping men because they have men in their lives and benefit from it. Why should I see them as any different from feminists who want to help men to HELP WOMEN? Why should I see them as any different from your average woman who sees men as nothing but a utility device to benefit from?

Let's look at some of these names:

Cathy Young, author of Ceasefire: Why Women and Men Must Join Forces to Achieve Equality

I don't need women to have my rights. She sounds like so many other feminists that want to change maleness to benefit women first and men second.

Young is a research associate at Cato Institute in Washington, DC, for which she co-wrote a 1996 policy analysis paper, "Feminist Jurisprudence: Equal Rights or Neo-Paternalism?". Young's writing cover a variety of topics in politics and culture, with a particular focus on gender issues and feminism. Her writings reflect an individualist feminist perspective (c.f. Wendy McElroy). She frequently agrees with men's rights activists but will call them to task for emulating the identity politics associated with some forms of feminism.

So she is a feminist that occasionally agrees with mens rights, but tells them to 'man up' when acting like feminists. She is still a feminist.

Deborah Watkins, former President of the Tarrant County (Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas) Chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW) and now the president of the Dallas-Ft. Worth Chapter of the National Coalition of Free Men (NCFM)

So here's a second feminist who is president of a mens group? I wonder what they do, anyone have any ideas? Let's see what google has: Well, the NCFM looks good on the surface but I couldn't find much on Watkins. From the NCFM site

They look good but I am wondering why they have a former NOW feminist running the chapter. Feminist appropriation? or Guilty conscience. Either way, what happens here? Feminists systematically destroy maleness and male rights and now she wants to work on rebuilding them...to what end? To help men or to change men to help women?

Dianna Thompson is a founder and the executive director of the American Coalition for Fathers and Children (ACFC). She is the leader of America's "second-wives" movement and is the founder of the Second Wives Crusade (SWC).

So she is a second wife who isn't getting her dues cause the first wife fucked over her current husband...hmmm, she obviously cares so much about the welfare and rights of all males.

Ann Swango, a child advocate, a member of the Children's Rights Council in Washington DC, and the director of PACE of Kentucky. Swango has worked to set fair and realistic child support obligations

Not sure what to think about this one...does she help boys or is she simply making CS affordable so mothers can still collect while fathers pay to baby sit their children two weekends a month?
