I'm pretty sure he was just joking. It's a really old joke. My grandfather used to make that joke, and I know his relationship with my grandmother was the exact opposite.

I've heard this line of thinking before:

"If mamma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy."

And after two failed marriages, and a couple of LTR's that fell apart, I have come to realize how true this is.

I have gone into every relationship, expecting, hoping, and encouraging the woman to be my equal - to put as much effort into my needs as I put into hers. But what I have found is that most women will gladly take whatever you have to offer, but are reluctant to return the effort; even to the point of outright hostility when the subject is approached in conversation.

And the more I think about it, the less desire I have to ever marry again, to subjugate myself, my emotional health, my livelihood, etc... all to the whim of a woman that must continually be pleased or she will find a way to make my life miserable.

No thanks.

Bill Cosby did stand-up for our college one year. Half his material can be summed up to: "Do whatever the wife tells you and you'll both be happy." I wanted to laugh in a sportsmanlike way, but he had no inverse material to balance it out. Lots of girls in the audience cheering, but none of the Chris Rock-style poke fun at both sides kinda thing.

As pathetic as it sounds, our pussy-in-chief is right: once married, a man loses many of his basic rights, and therefore his only available course of action is to do whatever his wife tells him to do..
