The problem with statutory rape is that we have to draw a line somewhere between where it's ok and where it's not. No matter where that line is, there will be people on the upper-side who aren't as mature as they should be, and for whom the law is intended, and people on the lower-side who are more mature for their age, and to whom the law applies when it should not.

I really don't know where to start with all the faulty assumptions and statements there. How the hell did the author come to the conclusion that it was "more likely" that she was seduced, even if it is possible? And as far as the quips about her being raped several times in the long term, I guess he/she has never heard of prolonged patterns of abuse? This wasn't stranger rape, it was someone the victim knew and interacted with on a regular basis.

Whatever legitimate points the article had were lost in that disgusting display.

Ridiculous article, making assumptions where they don't have all the facts. You lose your credibility when you assume a 4 year old wasn't raped because they didn't charge the man with bodily injury. Why are they nitpicking whether there was actual penetration before calling that man a rapist? I think people should choose who they want to defend more wisely. I came away from that article thinking the writer has some personal issues with being accused of rape and wants to argue semantics.

Think the cut off should be 13, and under 13 it should still be called rape, because when you molest a fucking 7 yr old and shit, you deserve to be called a rapist, whether you went all the way or not. 13-18 parents discretion or something, not up to the courts. Even up to the parents though, 13+ consensual sex should never be referred to as rape.

Didn't read the article, but I was acussed of rape two times in my life. The first was a drunk girl that I knew, and she got really drunk, hotnhorney one night. I told her that I was putting her in my bed, and she should wake my up on the couch the next morning, instead, she pulls me into bed, jumps on top of me, thrusting her tits in my face, and pulled my pants down, after which I did hers, and we 'tried' to have sex, except she was soooooo dry, that it never happened.

The next time was a girlfriend that somehow scored some crack and so so fucked up, she opened the front door and screemed 'rape'. I left my house, made a huge scratch on the back of my neck, and when the cops arrived, they saw the scratch and said, "she was obviously the aggressor". I never did anything wrong with either one... but the first one, she knew all my friends and then I lost them just as quick. About 5 years later, she confessed that I didn't rape her, but at that time, my friends were already gone.

I want to believe that the author is looking for differing semantics and not acceptance toward rapists/molesters. If you have sex with a person against their will, you are a rapist. If you sexually assault a child (under age 13) you are a pedophile and a child molester. If you have sex with a minor who can not give consent (age of consent varies from 16 to 18 depending on state) you are a statutory rapist.

In most states there is a clause where the difference in age affects the decision of consent. An 18 year old can have sex with a 17 year old without it being statutory rape in many states. If the age difference is more than 2 years, and the younger person is younger than 16, the older person is assumed to be a statutory rapist.

Not all states have these laws, but they are put in place to protect teens who turn 18 from being charged unfairly. It is not designed to protect a 35 year old having sex with a 15 year old.

Think about your kids when they were 15. Think about yourselves. Kids are still figuring themselves out at that age. They're still mentally growing into their developing bodies. Think about how weird it is for twilight moms to be screaming about fictional high school boys (ok, vampires, whatever) and teachers molesting their students. It's disturbing!

Age discimination: why is a 15 year old capable to consent to sex with a 16 year old but not with a 35 year old?

Is the article for real? Please tell me there aren't men out there who honestly think it's okay for a 35 year old and a 15 year old to have sex!
