But gender politics aside... no western country is in Afghanistan to fight for women's rights. That is a cover story at best. There are plenty of other places on earth, ignored by western armies, where women suffer more.

If you want to know why western nations are in Afghanistan, follow the money (ie: oil pipelines). Yes, it's that simple.

Christ, are you guys really so petty you have to take hundreds of women burning themselves to death to escape systematic oppression and twist it to your own pet cause? It's not like male suicide is ignored. The military in particular has received recent coverage.

What the hell guys. Why can't you just bring up the fact that men commit suicide at home without dragging in some sort of crazy conspiracy theory. This is the kind of poor reasoning that makes people not take entire valid viewpoints seriously. This subreddit is just bizzare, on the one hand i see people making valid points that touch on perfectly valid complaints getting upvoted (divorce issues, childcare issues, discrimination) and then in the same page there is this.

Time doesn't care about men's suffering because the wrote about women in Afghanistan. By the same logic if they wrote a piece about homelessness in India the obviously wouldn't care about poverty in the US, right?

I bet there are more suicide per capita among soldiers deployed in Afghanistan than among Afghan women.

But don't be sad, these men died so that one day Afghan women can be FREE, free to be spoiled little whores like their western sisters.
