Back in the 50's and 60's it was the opposite way - women were all portrayed as brainless house wives. The tide has turned.

Big fucking deal. Advertising is all about exploiting you psychologically so that you buy shit. Like everybody else, I avoid it as much as possible and certainly don't base my own value system on the shit I see in ads (at least not consciously).
