It continues to astonish me that there is even debate about the legitimacy of this practice.

Before my son was born, I had already decided that he wasn't going to have it done (my wife left the decision entirely in my hands, as she felt I was the most appropriate person to make the call).

After he was born, the OB asked if I wanted her to do it, and I asked her point-blank (already knowing the answer) "is there any medical reason to do so?" She replied "nope", immediately followed with "then we won't be doing it" when she saw the smirk on my face. Didn't question me on it, didn't try to pressure me into anything, just knew once I asked that question what my response was going to be.

As good as this article is, it prototypically neglects to mention the mountain of psychological damage caused by neonatal genital mutilation -- damage which is typical for severe physical and psychological trauma.

There being no 'medical' reason to circumcise barely scratches the surface of this issue.
