So I have been thinking about this issue for a while. As a moderator, I see all the complaints people have about misogyny and misandry among posts in this subreddit. Often times, my thoughts are "Clearly that person has an issue with <gender>, but I wouldn't say it is hatred. So I am going to let it pass."

Hate is a very strong word. There are a variety of other words that could apply to someone's views, especially about gender or sexual orientation or trans-status, other than hate. Distrust? Disdain? Contempt? None of those are hate (but they aren't healthy either). Frustration? Anxiety? Also not hate.

We remove posts and ban people that demonstrate misogynistic and misandric views, but only when those show actual HATE.

So I think we need some new terms to help describe the level of someone's gender issues. "Kill all men" for example is very clearly misandry. "Boys are mean, throw rocks at them" would not be misandry, but it might be disdain for men. "Females are all whores" would be misogyny. "I just don't trust women" wouldn't be misogyny, but it does show a level of disdain for women.

So I think we need to start generating some more appropriate words to describe the different levels of gender-related issues. Misogyny and misandry are too extreme to apply to every situation, and most definitely they are abused to try to make something seem more extreme than it is.

Maybe something like disandry and disogyny for something that isn't hatred but is clearly a gendered issue.
