Today, I had to take a step back from my laptop and laugh. Despite men most often receiving the shorter end of the stick in marriage and divorce proceedings, here is this woman claiming that marriage disproportionately benefits men.

Removed because link dump (rule 11). You are supposed to write a paragraph in your post about why this is relevant and to encourage discussion.

It's because men who are married are healthier, more fit, and earn more money than men who aren't married.

Which is a correlation: these are the men who women go after because they are "marriage material". Them being married doesn't make them that way. It's entirely the other way around; men who have money and are physically fit are the ones who find women who want to marry them.

Not that I blame anyone for this. But let's not forget who has the upper hand ("power and control") in the sex and dating world.

It’s almost like men who earn more money and are physically fit are less likely to end up alone. That’s shocking! /s

The part about men feeling distress of their wife makes more money than them is interesting, but she completely misses the point.

Feminism has allowed women to escape their traditional rolls. They can now have careers and high paying jobs, that’s great, it’s a good thing that a decent amount of the high paying jobs are occupied by women. BUT there has never been a corresponding men’s movement. Our traditional roll is to be a provider. It’s harder to do that with so much more competition but it’s still culturally taboo for us not to fill that roll. I work in a female dominated industry that’s not known for great pay. I lost count of the number of times I’ve been told something along the line of “you need to change careers so you can provide for a family” or more rudely having my very manhood questioned because my fiancé makes a lot more than I do. Non of the women I work with have ever been told anything like that. Full integration in the workplace is a good thing, but we can’t have that and still have the same expectations on men that we did when there were 50% less people competing for high paying jobs

I wish the men’s movement used “ partner not provider” as a slogan.
