The left is traditionally very pro male. It supports workers (and a lot of men work), the disenfranchised (homeless, suicide, substance misuse etc - and we all know the MRA talking points on that) etc.

Wokeism is a complete cancer, and something else. Its not really left as it has a disdain for the working class, the poor and when it does speak of the poor it is often driven more by envy of the rich then a care for the poor. It is full of professors who have a resentment that other disciplines e.g. STEM are respected or that non degree people earn more than them, hence burn the system down thoughts. If you cant have a monogamous relationship its easy to say, fuck all monagomy, its for losers, the concept is bad.

Wokeism is bad for everyone (apart from woke elites) but especially men. THis is because men are classified as opressors and also as privelged. Maleness is seen as bad, masculinity is seen as bad etc. Wokeism by its nature and turns on itself, so like here, now white women became the devil as theya re now privelged:

Wokism, the current culture that is the culmination and the breeding ground of modern Feminism, is the left wing of Neoliberalism, rather than any notion of a Left-wing culture.

This video by Philosophy Prof Moeller is an amazingly acurate analysis of wokism, clearing out all the misconceptions around it, and all the (right-wing) attempts to conflate it with the Left.

Sorry, but halfway through this video and it's just so off base. Saying wokeism is individualist requires an inability to understand individualism, and saying Marxism can not be about anything but economics is true if you're only talking about Marx himself and not neomarxism (Peterson often clarifies with the term "postmodern neomarxists" and acknowledges the contradictions, it is a contradictory philosophy) or any of the many scholars who further developed ideas Marx had laid out. Gramsci, Marcuse, etc., identity politics is a line that goes from Marx through Marcuse through Bell and Crenshaw through to today, with a few offshoots along the way with some influence from postmodernism, early women's rights (proto-feminist before the term was used) movements and with a few common goals, but very little in common with, social liberalism.

Social liberalism, and the original left wing libertarianism (very similar concept) seem to get confuaed very easily with neomarxist and critical theorist thought. The left wing concept of the social safety net to shift the balance of power towards workers so as to minimize suffering and support social mobility is also not marxist. Just because they both claim to care about the poor and disenfranchised does not make them the same. A safety net is not the same as a state controlled economy created by seizing the means of production and banning the accumulation of capital through profit or agreeing with the labour theory of value. Wanting to give everyone equal rights and prosecuting discriminatory policy where provable in a court of law is not the same as treating all individuals of a class as representative of the class as a whole, assigning collective guilt or collective oppression even where it does not map to individuals and creating discriminatory practices. If you can't see how both concepts are left in the sense of attempting to protect vulnerable people and the disenfranchised, but fundamentally completely different ideologically, I don't know what to tell you.

The guy mentions cynical theories but I can't tell if he has actually read the book because his criticisms are explained by the book and the New Discourses podcast, and by the literature cited therein. Aside from postmodernism being a metanarrative itself and fundamentally inconsistent, Cynical Theories is upfront that critical theories take influence from postmodernism but don't accept it wholesale. They primarily adopt the notion that metanarratives are defined by power structures and that the truth is (almost) irredeemably obscured by the hegemony of those in power. They take from this that science, reason, logic, etc. are expressions of power, and thus there to reinstate themselves and not actually reveal reality. Thus the lived experience is as valid as logic and data, and the constant talk about other "ways of knowing" being equally valid, because every "way of kmowing" is an expression of power, and power matters more than truth. The difference is that critical theories have a neomarxist answer to this, critical consciousness, in which those who are oppressed by systems of power correctlg identify their oppressors and therefore "break free" by basically agreeing with woke doctrine.

His argument about it being neoliberal (free market capitalist) seems to be based on nothing more than that it's exploited by capitalism? Like... no shit? Capitalism follows the money, money follows popularity, woke bullshit is crazy popular. That has nothing to do with the philosophical roots of the movement. Maybe in the last third he elaborates but this whole video so far is really inane. I mean he's fairly on point about it being a secular religion I guess. So is Marxism. Neoliberalism is a fucking economic philosophy, and it's fundamentally economic libertarian. I have major major issues with it, but it has fucking nothing to do with critical theories and closely aligned woke concepts, apart from the fact that there are a heap of grifters and hypocrites out there. Wokeness is fundamentally collectivist and interventionist, it is not liberal or individualist in any way shape or form. That's what intersectionality is. It's all about classifying you by your black and white oppressed/oppressor categories to determine your privilege class. You are not defined by your own experience or self, but by others with the same skin colour, gender, sexuality etc. They are also revolutionary and invoke seizing the means of cultural production (hence "cultural neomarxism") to create new hegemonies after destroying the old order.
