As an example of the latter problem, consider the proportion of black incarcerated Americans. This proportion is often used to characterize the criminal justice system as anti-black. However, if we use the precise same methodology, we would have to conclude that the criminal justice system is even more anti-male than it is anti-black. Would we characterize criminal justice as a systemically misandrist conspiracy against innocent American men? I hope you see that this type of reasoning is flawed, and requires a significant suspension of our rational faculties.

Well yes, I would. Female criminality is often ignored and women receive less harsh sentencing for the same type of crimes. I don't see this as a suspension of rational faculties, considering many men don't even feel safe calling the police if they are facing domestic violence. I say this as a woman working in the criminal justice system.

Black people are not incarcerated at higher rates than their involvement in violent crime would predict. This fact has been demonstrated multiple times across multiple jurisdictions in multiple countries.

The argument is normally the black people are incarcerated at a higher rate for the same crime. As an example, black people are not more likely than white people to use or possess drugs, but are substantially more likely to be caught and go to jail for it. Yes, it is true that black people are still committing a crime and simply more likely to be caught for it but the fact remains it is a legitimate question to ask why black men are more likely to be seen as suspicious, threatening or criminal when their white counterparts are just as likely to be using.

why is it that Asian Americans, Indian Americans, and Nigerian Americans are incarcerated at vastly lower rates than white Americans? This is a funny sort of white supremacy.

I would need to see if he is talking proportionally or just statistically. When it applies to Asian Americans in particular, the problem is often based on socioeconomic status and not just on race. Lower income communities have higher crime rates and are policed more heavily. Black and Hispanic Americans are more likely to live in these communities and are therefore arrested more often. There is plenty of research that shows a very direct correlation between poverty and crime.

None of this is explained, beyond hand-waving and ad hominems. “Those are racist dogwhistles”. “The model minority myth is white supremacist”. “Only fascists talk about black-on-black crime”, ad nauseam.

The problem with discussions on black on black crime is that is is true of every racial group in America. Every racial group is most likely to victimize someone the same race as them. It is only when it is black Americans that it transforms into a narrative about "black on black" crime as though that is something unique to black people.

That being said, there are some understandable concerns (in my opinion) from police officers who point out that they are protecting their communities (which may be majority black) from things like gang violence, robbery and other violent criminals who just happen to be black. And then they are getting flak for doing so which they feel erases the fact that the victims they were protecting were black as well. There is legitimate frustration from officers when they get flak for arresting a black gang member but those same people criticizing them had no words at all when that black gang member did a drive by shooting on a house with black kids inside. Sometimes these narratives erase black victims to come to the defense of black criminals for no other reason than that people don't like to see cops arresting black men. People talk about how white police officers are working in majority black areas and therefore arresting a majority of black people but they leave out the part that they are also getting justice for a majority black victims as well. If they just hated black people they would be refusing to go to calls for service for black community members who called the police.

It is for historians, therefore, to explain why Japanese internment or the massacre of European Jewry hasn’t led to equivalent rates of dysfunction and low SES performance among Japanese and Jewish Americans respectively. Arab Americans have been viciously demonized since 9/11, as have Chinese Americans more recently. However, both groups outperform white Americans on nearly all SES indices — as do Nigerian Americans, who incidentally have black skin.

This addresses my previous thought, which is that SES is a higher predictor of crime than race.

The total alliance of major corporations involved in human exploitation with BLM should be a warning flag to us, and yet this damning evidence goes unnoticed, purposefully ignored, or perversely celebrated.

This is a bad argument. Major corporations exist to make money. They will jump on any social trend that they believe will earn them more customers and good will. Arguing that a corporation aligning itself with a trendy social movement is proof of the underlying nefarious intent of said social movement is asinine.

And yet, the regents of UC and the historians of the UCB History department are celebrating this violent criminal, elevating his name to virtual sainthood. A man who hurt women. A man who hurt black women.

There does appear to be truth in the argument that many black women who are victimized by black men are encouraged by those in their community to keep quiet about it in order to avoid lending credence to negative stereotypes about black men. This is something that has been noted by black women themselves. It is a common complaint from black women that black men are not always good to them. Black women are repeatedly stereotyped as the least attractive or desirable group (along with Asian men). There are many black men who outright refuse to date a black woman and who claim white women and women of other races are more superior or desirable while actively promoting racist stereotypes about "the angry black woman". Single-motherhood is very common for black women. These discussions are not "politically correct" to be having. But it can be argued that some of this pressure on black women to uplift and support black men is rarely returned.
