So, now flirting with and complimenting someone negates their ability to consent? This shit is insane. This is precisely the slippery slope I called bullshit on when I first learned about affirmative consent and taking all responsibility off of the more passive party to explicitly deny consent.

This highlights well how the definition of consent has been broadened so much that it makes no sense. Secondly, it seems in cases like this one, but also in others, (especially in the accusations I have seen in social media,) that there is an element of bad faith.

To be clear, she verbally consented. But because he had flattered her by calling her beautiful beforehand, they are saying that is cajoling, which is akin to coercion, which negates her consent.

This is madness.

I recently saw a poster on campus that gave examples of how some things remove consent such as a drugs, physical force, and manipulation. Okay that makes sense, but wait isn't manipulation incredibly vague? Would saying you are on birth control be considered manipulation? Would makeup? Implants? Shoes that make you seem taller?

I talked to a woman friend of mine about this and she said I was just misinterpreting this because of context so good to have evidence I was not crazy and it is the universities who are crazy.

I totally agree that consent can be removed at any time but the events of night in question should be the primary focus of the inquiry.

Only once this case is closed one way or another should the VP alter the definition.
