Whats the difference between not taking shit from someone and not breaking frame?

Your lines need to be very very close in. When you're young those lines are six feet out because you lack experience. I"m 50 and my lines are about a half inch from my face. Someone would have to be about to do real harm to my life, property or career to get a response from me. Then that response is always well thought out, cold calculated and solves the problem.
The difference is that with proper frame these line crossing things almost never happen.

Alright, OP. Coworker tested my limits recently by trying to boss me around, and then insult me for being a shit worker for delays outside of my control. He's roughly my equal, save for the fact he's got a few years of experience on me (late apprentice, whereas I'm a new one) so I wasn't worried about telling him off - but getting a rep for being a troublemaker or spaz doesn't work.

When I got him some tools he needed and he was all "Ugh. Fucking finally, jesus christ!" because it took a while, I looked at him and said "Didn't see you helping." - and he really wasn't, considering he was sitting, waiting, and chatting with somebody else instead of helping me search the area for what we needed. Somebody above me I would have simply kept quiet, since it's not worth it in that case and they'd still think they were right. They'd have to cross some serious lines first in that case.
