She’s being charged as an accessory. In cases where the woman is the rapist, they tend to use other terminology.

I notice that in the case of female school teachers charged with statutory rape. They might use the word rape once as a side note referring to the charge but never use it in the headline or use the word otherwise. The headlines always read something like: “Teacher accused of sleeping with student”. A male teacher does the same and the headline reads: “Male teacher charged with raping his female student”.

This is just so wrong. And I don't mean their alleged crimes. That's a different conversation.

One, the accused's names should never be released to the news media before they are found guilty. At this point, regardless of the outcome of a trial, both of these people's lives are trashed. Forget about getting a job or living in a small community.

Two, there was no mention of what actually happened leaving anyone reading the article to assume the worst when it was likely a seduction and sexual rendezvous with the three of them. I'm not saying that should be okay but let me tell you, back in the day, I knew plenty of 12-year-old girls who were all about it and would brag about their conquests. Education, parental control, and societal/media pressure are the only way to combat the rampant glorification of sexuality that exists today.

Point number three, at what point does a truly evil person start weighing the options as to if they're caught, the destruction of their own lives versus murdering the young person and hiding the body? If your life is going to be destroyed and you are facing eight years in prison for having sex with an underage person, and you're facing possibly the same penalties for murder, at what point does murder become the better option.

Obviously murder and rape are abhorrent crimes and I am not suggesting anything other than a careful look at these laws needs to happen. Again, please do not infer that I am ok with murder, rape, or child abuse. My issue lies in the laws and punishments in these cases. What do you want to bet that as more "empowered" women get caught for these crimes, the narrative will change and sentences will rapidly change from years in prison to counseling and probation.
