Muscle dysmorphia is more prevalent among males.

Some studies looking at muscle dysmorphia and eating disorders find similar rates of prevalence in men and women. This is especially true in young people, most likely because they have been exposed to a different culture than older generations.

This study looks at military personnel and finds that 13% of males had Body Dysmorphic Disorder. This is >1 in 10 so it's pretty high. The rates of body image disorders in men have been rising with each generation.

Although men are not sexualised as much in TV and film, according to recent research (2/3rds less than women) they are in younger generations equally preoccupied with their body. Does this pre-occupation stem from a culture where it is socially acceptable to comment on a man's body but not a woman's? Possibly.

As male sexualisation in media continues to rise, the prevalence of BDD and other disorders is also set to rise. In the future, awareness of body image issues in men will have to be taken seriously as the prevalence rate will be too high to ignore. Hopefully, it will be explained by something more insightful that "Patriarchy hurts men too".

Women shame men for not being tall enough, something they clearly have no control over. But, say something about a woman's weight, which is almost always controllable, and you've committed a crime against humanity.

Women body shame each other more so than men do they just don’t want to admit it. They’ll destroy another women down to the smallest detail about fakeup (makeup) and hair but it’s ok because in some weird way it’s supposed to be encouraging rather than attacking.

Lmao body shaming is literally just a social convention that doesn’t allow unhealthy individuals to be held accountable for their poor decisions. Same concept with slut shaming.

As a man, you cannot justify having unhealthy habits by believing in the protection of “no body shaming.” The world won’t take a fat, lazy man serious at all. Plain and simple. No one will love you “just the way you are”. That’s why about 70% of the homeless population is men. You want love? You want respect? Get off your ass and make a difference. Burden of performance at its finest.

Now if you’re woman, it doesn’t matter if you’re morbidly obese, or near starvation. Society will pander you and make you believe that being entitled to people’s love and respect is acceptable behavior. Now as far as heterosexual relationships go for these overweight (“love me for me”) women, less men will find them attractive. Instead of looking in the mirror and holding themselves accountable, they will simply shift blame to misogyny, the patriarchy, or shame men by calling them shallow.
