A lot of the comments in that thread were actually pretty supportive, but what bothers me is that one of the top voted comments is a thread of women who actually claim to have a preference for shorter men but then quickly switch to blaming short men for their attitude/ lack of confidence, etc.

And here's the thing; I don't doubt that these women genuinely do have a preference for shorter men. Of course some women are into it. If they weren't evolution would have made us all NBA players. But what ticks me off is that they essentially expect short men to be grateful about it. Like the fact that they are attracted to you is them doing you a favor.

Men, for the most part, understand that women simply do not want to be reduced to body parts and measurements. Citing a body measurement of any sort as a dating criteria is tacky and just as much of a turnoff for the people who meet the measurement as it is for those excluded by it. The possible exception here is controllable fitness goals - people who work out like to know their efforts are appreciated. But even then, it is usually best to not directly mention. It's just terrible game.

For the most part, men have been taught to attempt to woo and impress women who we find attractive rather than stating our criteria and bemoaning that women who meet it do not have the confidence to approach us the exact way we would prefer.

I just wish more women were getting that same lesson.

I get where they’re coming from with the “confidence” bit being unattractive, but I doubt they considered that some of these men who lack confidence became like that due to being made fun of. Rejection is a part of life but the humiliation that is piled on top of that can be very traumatizing. “You? Why would I date you? I can literally see over your head.” Hearing things like that after asking a girl out over and over again will absolutely crush your self esteem. So when you finally get a girlfriend, the insecurities begin to eat at you and it creates the scenario in your head that you’re a pity case. Girls can their preferences but I wish they’d be a bit more considerate.

What men have not yet accepted is that this is personal choice by women and they are not going to achieve anything by opposing personal choice, as much as that choice affects men.

I think men also need to accept that civilisation has evolved and we can't ethically oppose personal choice unless it infringes on the rights of another person, as we used to be able to do in the past by virtue of a man's greater strength in coercing what he wanted.

We also need to accept that many men are falling afoul of personal choice in their pursuit of sexual fulfillment and not turn a blind eye simply because it doesn't affect us. Unfortunately, the only solution to being dismissed by women is to seek sexual fulfilment elsewhere.

Historically, men have been discouraged from obtaining sexual pleasure except in missionary position with women within a marriage. This is a cultural straight-jacket on what is actually possible for men. Fortunately we have abandoned some of those constraints and yet some of the most fundamental still remain.

Firstly, few men explore their own erotic potential and discover prostate orgasms, multiple orgasms, full body orgasms or other erogenous zones beyond penile stimulation because of historical taboo.

Secondly, few men consider exploring recreational sex with other men and getting a dog if they want unconditional love and affection, because of entrenched homophobia: they forget that during masturbation they are having sex with a man; that sex with another adds something to masturbation alone; that men are in a better position to know what another man likes; or that anything men do together is intrinsically masculine.

Thirdly, I would normally suggest prostitution, however I think it is just another way to remain hostage to someone else for our needs, plus it seems to be under greater attack than ever due to it being viewed as taking advantage of women, so I don't hold hopes for it increasing in its availability.

As far as sexual fulfilment goes, there are many legal alternatives available for men which are simply not considered because of societal conditioning: perhaps we should think about them, instead of being held hostage to women's choices, and going our own way.

If we want children, however, that's a more difficult issue to resolve. I believe children need exposure to both sexes for identity formation, which necessarily involves women. Perhaps in future we will be able to separate sex from procreation and have informed contracts for procreation with otherwise freedom for sex, but at the moment I don't have any answers when it comes to having a family, if one is challenged by another's choices.

I don't see the point in pursuing something you can't have because it is dependent on someone else's personal choice: even if they choose at one point, choices can change and women can be very fickle in their choices. However, I do see the point in determining the fundamental requirement that is being pursued and finding an alternative solution to that requirement that is more readily accomplished, although it may be challenging dealing with the remnants of societal taboo and conditioning in realising that different path.
