Me (22F) and my SO (22M) tested positive for COVID and are stuck on quarantine in my small one-bedroom apartment (we don't live together normally and he needs to return to his country after he isn't sick anymore). His symptoms are more severe than mine and he is stuck in a country he doesn't know the language of so I'm doing my best to ignore my own pain and assist him as good as I can. He is clearly suffering and only lies in bed, I haven't heard his voice in days because his throat is so bad. It makes me feel really lonely and isolated as we won't get help from anyone, he can only rely on me and I know he feels secure thanks to that. But I don't have anyone to lean on to take care of me and the only words I get from my SO are his needs or complaints in text messages. I get up several times in the night to get him medicine or water and keep track on us both when we should take our medicines. I cook us meals even when I feel like dying so that he isn't hungry (can't afford take-out every day). Yesterday was a really hard day mentally for me and moreover I got a high fever which made me forget to take my birth control. It made me scared because it was the pill from the first weeks blister and the leaflet said that I need to contact my doctor if I missed that one (which is impossible rn in my country on top with our quarantine). I told my SO that I'm feeling anxious and need comfort to which he texted that I should have more braincells and put an alarm clock on my phone to not forget it (I never forgot before that's why I never had one up). This hit me hard, I communicated it to him but he only said that I should be aware that he is prone to irritation in his current state but he appreciates everything I do for him. I don't want to be snappy back, I know that he is suffering and isn't able to be compassionate about my problems but it would be nice to be comforted a bit more. I'm crying everyday in the bathroom and sometimes on his shoulder while he remains silent. I'm writing here to partially vent and seek advice. How can I be my own support system in this hard times? How should I deal with being the only caretaker for my SO while also being sick? Any tips in any matter I talked about earlier is greatly appreciated (also surviving quarantine, easy meals ect.). Thank you for reading this.
