I started a job at a psychiatry practice recently, I’ve only been on for a few months but now I see ‘women are emotional’ is one of the many projections and fears men displace onto us. By far our worst, most dramatic, and non-compliant patients are males. Sure, there’s the occasional bad patient who’s a woman as well but by far the most difficult to deal with are the men. They refuse to admit they have any problems, they refuse to take medication, they can’t handle even a bit of inconvenience in order to get better. They take everything very personally and refuse to think logically. They get aggressive extremely quickly, they use their physical strength as a means of coercion. They think they know better than the female doctor I work under. This really makes me think and feel upset how it was always women who were being institutionalized, lobotomized, and being accused of things like female hysteria for having normal emotions as a result of being abused throughout their whole lives.

Edit: another interesting thing to note is many mentally ill men are only being kept on track by their doting wife; I never see the opposite being true. In fact, many of the mentally ill women have only been worsened by their male partners who are either actively abusing them or have left them
