I’m known to be vocal about feminism, and I’m not afraid to point out any type of misogyny, misandry or stereotypical comments. I realise that I sometimes make stereotypical comments myself but I try to be as conscious as I can and I’m not afraid to apologise for anything that’s problematic in my behaviour. But lately I’ve seen that my male friends shut up as soon as I come and say “don’t say such stuff here” “say this later” which actually just highlights how screwed up all of this is. The point of feminism is to bring about a revolution- to change the mindset of the people that has been internalised since ages, NOT to make them good at hiding it. It’s counterproductive because not only is there absolutely NO change in mindset of these people but also it acts as an enemy for communication that we really need to bring about the said change. It’s truly disheartening to see.
