A lot of people look down on women who seek out powerful/rich (I mean one is generally synonymous with the other) men, by calling them "trophey wives" and "gold digger" and shit. And those are generally very attractive women. In a capitalist society, beuaty is a woman's most coveted asset and most easily monetized too.
Women are commodified in sex work, in the modeling industry (both industries intertwine). But you can also see the same patterns in dating. Especially online dating nowadays, where women are used to lure a tons of men into dating sites. They can have access to women for free. And as we know, if a service seems free it's bc you're the product. Same for night clubs: hire a few hot women, and you're pretty sure, a bunch of men will come and will spend a lot of money to impress them.
Even while working brifly in a night club, I noticed that a lot of bosses would ask female bartenders to wear skimpy outfits or flirt with clients. So it wasn't prostitution, but the line was really blurred. Because the boss was still profitting off of the young women's sexuality and making money out of it.
While if a woman chooses to commodify her body for herself and post naked pictures on of, she's considered immoral and will be judged harshly.
Women are more independant nowadays so they're less likely to seek out a provider. But it's still in the general consciousness that a man's value is tied to his earning power. And that has to do with heteronormativity and gender roles, even tho they're dying.
And even if a woman may not seek a man for his earning power. She may still seek a man for security. In the sense that if you're not attached to a man, you're worth less in society, single women are still treated as less than. So being in a relationship with a man affords you this type of validation.
Security can also be in the sense of, beign respected because other men respect your man so they won't mess with you. Even if peopel don't respect women, they can still respect the man you're with and therefore respect you by proxy.
