It's not consistent. One vocal poster in a different sub likes to bring up how Irish women weren't allowed jobs until the 70's.

The truth is more complex. Married Irish women couldn't work outside the home, but not because of "patriarchy". Ireland was poor and attempting to ration jobs. It was misguided, but not out of misogyny. It was a social experiment, that assumed married women had income from their husbands. At the time, Ireland didn't allow divorce.
