i love how when i tell someone how to do something its ‘mansplaining’ but when things go wrong its ‘why didnt you tell me’

Happened to me once. Really hurt because I looked up to this person as a mentor and she absolutely knew that was the nature of our professional relationship. It felt like a betrayal. I never had a mentor in that field so it was an important relationship to me. I very much valued and respected her professional competency. She was damn good at her job and I was learning a lot from her.

She asked for help diagnosing an unexpected behavior on a project. I was helping over the company chat system. Ran through some basic checks to set my baseline understanding of the state of this so I could diagnose a more complicated issue.

Then boom she drops the mansplaining accusation. The word has been completely diluted to the point that, for some people, it means "when a man explains things to a woman."

You guys must learn to recognize this "internal screeming". This is the sign that she manipulated you to get angry. At this point she is already laughing at you inside. You should just stop arguing, as she is not interested in the argument she just wants to hurt your feelings.

You explained something to her, so basically shareed your knowledge with her for free to make her understand the world better and her reaction is to start manipulating you to hurt your feelings. She is just a shitty person.

The definition given by feminists is that mansplaining is a man explaining something that she already knows. In their minds, preferably something that she obviously already knows. And often, in their minds, in a condescending manner.

My experience is that mansplaining is when a man explains something that she's merely not interested in. For example, she's having trouble doing something on the computer and asks why it's not working. You can tell her what to do differently and 9 out of 10 times that's all she wants from you. But if you then explain why the way she was doing it wasn't working, that's the real mansplaining.

There is a difference between mansplaining and giving someone directions. Mansplaining would be going to a librarian and telling them how the library works. A simple way to avoid this is to ask what they need to know and go from there.
