the fundamental misunderstanding that people almost always have when discussing Female Draft is that it means women in combat, and it factually does not.

the vast majority of wartime roles are non-combat support positions. 4 women could be drafted for every man, and never have a women exposed to combat.

This has ALWAYS been the case, and yet "women can't serve in combat" has been the "wink-wink" justification for not subjecting women to the draft like men are. it's a lie, it's always been a lie, and we need to stop letting people get away with it.

Bonus is that now women CAN serve in combat...and we still exempt women from draft registration.

How about no draft?

[–]3DemocracyActivist 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That would be the best idea.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sadly, this runs against the current geopolitical trends. More countries right now are considering introducing drafts, not removing them.

[–]Razorbladekandyfan -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, we cant predict the future. If the draft cant be abolished we should draft everyone.

[–]OldEgalitarianMRA 15 points16 points17 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That's from 2015 and this past year we almost got draft equality before the Supreme Court. We need to continue our efforts.

[–]Alternative_Summer 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The Supreme Court declined to hear the case (which the ACLU and NOW both supported). The lower court's decision said that it should be up to the legislature to decide. It came up, and nothing changed.

[–]Razorbladekandyfan 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You could have mentioned the courtcase was filed by NCFM.

I liked Obama's quote here:

“I think that if women are registered for service — not necessarily in combat roles, and I don't agree with the draft — I think it will help to send a message to my two daughters that they've got obligations to this great country as well as boys do."

The wars of today and tomorrow aren't usually going to be fought in trenches where brute strength guarantees a victory. Increasingly, we'll be seeing cyberwarfare and economic duels. You don't need a stereotypical male build to contribute massively to war efforts in these areas. By excluding women, we are excluding many individuals who could contribute considerably to cyberwarfare. Expecting to win only on the basis of strong men is a position that deserves to be defeated.

If we don't include women, we should just get rid of the draft. This isn't so much of a men's rights issue as a tactics, logic, and rationality argument. If a war requires brute strength, then we can design the physical requirements accordingly as the draft progresses. If not, then I want the best hackers whether they're male, female, intersex, or nonbinary.

[–]atavila 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's a good quote.

Part 1 of comment

Not drafting men or women, will help everyone's equality, including mens, but drafting women (given the regulations, standards and laws of the USA military other than draft) will not bring men equality, and it will not improve men's rights either, unless all of the laws and regulations of the military are completely equalised at the exact same time as draft equalisation.

There is two sides to being a troop. One side of being a troop is being put in a position of submission, because they are given orders. However there is another side to being a troop, one that shouldn't be overlooked while having this discussion, and that is being put in a position of authority, they are ordered to dominate, what the government calls "terrorists" and they are given the authority to use physical force in order to do so.

A male cop, in England for example, has less power than a female cop in England, because the law of England is biased against men, men have less rights than women, men live under a government that discriminates against them in cruel, misandrist ways. A female cop is therefore automatically in a position of higher authority, than a male cop, because she has rights that a male cop lacks, because all females in England, have rights that males lack, and based on the rights that the government implements, all women in England have more power, than men in England, because the law that the police are enforcing, is misandrist law, not equality law. There is a connection between the role / power of a cop and a prison guard, they are all part of the government ordered team, that is given authority to use physical force. A female prison guard has more power than a male prison guard, because the government gives female prison guards the authority to lay their hands on / search male prisoners and female prisoners, but gives male guards the authority to only lay their hands on / search male prisoners, meaning male prison guards lack 50% of the power that a female prison guard has. A man who commits any crime, wether it is something serious like murder, or something much less serious like theft, has his personal space legally violated by female prison guards, but female prisoners, even those who commit evil acts such as torturing children (including male children, which I think is relevant to point out given the context) to death, are deemed by government orders, as being above the touch of a male guard, the personal space of a woman who tortures a child to death, is given value by misandrist law, simply on the basis of her being female, value that male personal space is not given, by the government / the authority class / the misandrists in power.

If the law of England gave men and women identical rights, laws and punishments, if the law of England gave male and female prisoners equal rights, if cross gender searching was banned on male and female prisoners, (instead of just for female prisoners)

https://ukhumanrightsblog.com/2013/04/04/policy-allowing-cross-gender-searches-in-prisons-not-unlawful-says-high-court/

and the judges were not ordered by government to discriminate against men,

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1311004/amp/Judges-ordered-mercy-women-criminals-deciding-sentences.html

then a female cop would have equal power, to a male cop. A male would have equal power to female.

(To be continued in my reply to myself)

Part 2 of comment

A troop is in my opinion, an international cop (what is a cop? Someone who is given authority by the government to use physical force to complete government orders, what is a troop? Someone who is given authority by the government to use physical force to complete government orders), and make no mistake, the USA military, does very misandrist things, and if it suddenly equalised the draft but kept everything else the same, it would still be doing very misandrist things. It wouldn't be any less misandrist, than it already is.

Look at Guantanamo bay, consider how male prisoners of war are given less rights than female prisoners of war,

https://www.amnesty.org.uk/guantanamo-bay-human-rights

https://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-guantanamo-book-20150120-story.html#:~:text=In%20%E2%80%9CGuantanamo%20Diary%2C%E2%80%9D%20Mohamedou,life%20removed%20from%20his%20family.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/nov/05/guantanamo-bay-prisoners-ask-judge-to-ban-use-of-female-guards

https://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/01/us/judge-says-he-will-lift-restrictions-on-female-guantanamo-guards.html

Consider how male drone civilian casualties have been excluded from reporting in a discriminatory manner,

https://aoav.org.uk/2019/military-age-males-in-us-drone-strikes/

Consider this article that shows how males (who are labelled "terrorists" by the government, including children) in Syria are treated by the USA forces and it's allies.

https://www.hrw.org/news/2019/10/08/northeast-syria-boys-men-held-inhumane-conditions

This means that even if USA was to suddenly start drafting women, under the current regulations and standards of the USA military (and the groups it calls allies), this would still be a long way from equality, in fact, it wouldn't even bring equality any closer at all. A male troop would still have much less power than a female troop. A male prisoner of war, would still have much less rights, than a female prisoner of war. Same as a male "criminal" in England has much less rights than a female "criminal" in England.

The only way to truly equalise men and women's rights when it comes to the military, is to not only equalise the responsibility of male and female troops, but also to equalise the rights of male and female prisoners of war, because both of these things are connected, they should not be considered seprate issues, there is actually no way to truly equalise men and womens military rights, without doing both of these things at the same time. If you fail to do both of these things at the same time, then you are doing absolutely nothing for equality. Arming women and instructing them to go around the world and discriminate against males, will not help mens rights, because in doing so you are giving female troops additional powers over male "terrorists", that male troops are not given over female "terrorists".

Do I have a problem with allowing women to be in positions of authority? Not if the law that they are enforcing gives men equal rights to women, and gives men equal power over women that women are given over men. I fully support gender equality, it's only possible to fully support gender equality, if you support it fully. However, the law enforced by the police and military does not give men equal rights to women, it gives women rights that men don't have, and it places females in a position of dominance over males, and therefore I understand that you are actually risking helping misandrists by supporting drafting women, when treating it as isolated issue.

A true gender equality supporter, such as myself, will call for total equality, meaning the power of men and women should be equal, and the submission of men and women should also be equal.

If males in positions of authority are not allowed to torture female prisoners of war, then females in positions of authority should not be allowed to torture male prisoners of war. If male prison guards are not allowed to search female prisoners, then female prison guards should not be allowed to search male prisoners. If men and women are given equal authority over eachother, then I'm in total support of shared authority, but there is a very big difference between being in a position of authority, and being in the position of authority.

Equalising the draft alone will not equalise any of these other connected issues. The only solution, is equalising everything, including draft, not just equalising draft on its own.

Some misandrists might call for equalisation of men and women's responsibility, but no misandrist will call for equalisation of men and women's punishment. A misandrist wants to put women in positions of authority, that are above the authority of all men, by excluding women, from equal maximum punishment to a man.

So keep this in mind. If you make a pro drafting women statement, you should make sure that you make a pro equalisation of male and female prisoners of war rights statement at the same time, in the same statement, otherwise you are only covering one side of an extremely important issue. These issues are connected. You should not address one without addressing the other at the same time.

So just to clarify, so that I am not to be misinterpreted, I am pro equalisation of men and women's rights, responsibilities, punishments and laws. I am also against drafting men and / or women, and I support draft abolition.

[+]proteios1 -14 points-13 points-12 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

i am against women in the military (at leasat fighting roles) at all. I do not think mens rights should be fixated on exact equality. But instead recognizing the uniqueness of men and women and advancing those unique qualities that make us who we are rather than doing a mirror image of feminism and make everyone exactly equal in all ways.

[–]ImplodedPotatoSalad 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If she wants to decide on politics via vote, like we do, then she must die for the country like we do. And i mean die, not "support role" lol.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How does a compulsory draft for one gender recognise uniqueness? Men come in all shapes and sizes.

[–]PseudoFaffer6781 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Feminism is definitely not aimed at "making everyone exactly equal in all ways".

The goal of feminism is to gain special privileges for women on the basis of sex.

See the VAWA for instance, among many other examples.

[–]lordluke10 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

In a way i agree, but in reality it's a slippery slope. If we acknowledge the differences, we would need to have men earn 20-30% more than women, since men are bigger and require more food to survive. We would also have to keep women out of STEM roles, because women are worse at logical thinking and men out of psychology and nursing since they aren't as nurturing. Doesn't seem something that would fly, right?

[–]ImplodedPotatoSalad 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Would be benefixial to men tho, therefore I see no reason not to look for a way if possible...because why not? Feminists would not, and do not think twice, they just fuck us over as a rule. And the aame goes for wome in general, quite often.

You’ve made it perfectly clear that you despise women, or anyone female in a position of power above you. You’ve made it clear that you don’t think it’s “fair” that women are allowed to lead. You’ve made it clear that you were the leader who won’t allow a woman to pee in the field and also won’t let them use the latrines, and I’d bet you got in the way of getting the latrine replenished more than a time or two. You’re the same kind of asshole the men complain about.
