Male infertility is one of the few medical conditions where investigation and treatment is often completely ignored. Fertility issues are only dealt with from the female perspective.

For many years infertility has been considered a woman's only issue. Even today, as an andrology certified nurse, I often work with couples who have gone to a fertility clinic and if the issue is with sperm/semen parameters clinics often rush people straight to IVF in lieu of understanding why parameters are sub optimal. It is unfortunate because in many of those situations, with some lifestyle changes, supplements or (in more extreme situations) a small procedure that same couple could have had the chance to conceive naturally and save tens of thousands in IVF costs. Sperm health is not something men are comfortable discussing and we as a society need to change that. Sperm and male fertility are still treated as taboo. Nobody thinks anything about a woman freezing her eggs or pre-planning by having a fertility workup yet men do not commonly pre plan by having a baseline semen analysis and freezing sperm. I hope to see a shift in that trend where more men will feel comfortable not only discussing but testing and freezing their sperm.

Guys are always first to assume it's the women anyway, because somehow it makes you less of a man if you can't get a women pregnant.

There is an odd shame attached to being infertile.
