The red pill arose as a term for all kinds of shitty right wing views. Neo Nazis yes but also male supremacists and other assorted sexists who think the red pill shows you the "truth" about women, marriage, relationships and sex. Black pill is an offshoot of that for guys who have no hope.

First time i ever saw the term red pill was back in a PUA seminar camp from 2005 where infamous PUA Mystery refered to learning "game" as "seeing the matrix" of social interactions. From then, PUAs started using the term "Red Pill" to refer to the "awakening" for the reality that women only want to go to the top 20% men, despise nice guys, disney expectations are bullshit, etc.

Because nazis typically recruit in internet forums where the loners and frustrated men with feelings of inadequacy and fragile masculinity hang out, PUA forums became a very fruitful hunting ground for nazis, who then were themselves influenced by PUAs and started using the term "red pill" to refer to a multitude of social and political "reality checks".

Male supremacy is the gateway to more extreme ideologies. Yet people will try everything to make others look away when it comes to misogyny, bc it's "not that relevant" or it's "just feminists being hysterical". If people actually cared about misogyny and male supremacy, maybe we could catch this much earlier, before it evolved onto other ideologies.
