As men living in a world of convenience, I believe our question should not be our usefulness, but our necessity. My answer to that question is yes, because I love my dad, and I can’t possibly imagine my life without him ever being here. Nayernia's work has actually been proven to be a failure. Apparently, reproductive cells are very difficult to synthesize. Sperm cells are especially difficult due to the genetic stability required in each of the billion+ cells required for successful insemination. Really the only machine that can reliably produce these, are testicles. Ovum cells on the other hand, while being almost as difficult to synthesize, can technically be produced by anybody. How? Because the template for a functional nucleus cell already exists in everyone.

Just about every cell in your body has a nucleus. Now, it's not the right nucleus, but the marrows producing them can theoretically be made to produce a viable ovum. The only downside to this being the initial cost, and gestation requirements. However, considering gestation is a well documented event, it can be replicated in an artificial environment, with a high degree of success. The successful production of ovum cells would be the challenge, but again, only the first time...then it can be replicated to produce them enmasse. The same cannot be said of a minimum billion stable cells per load. It would be too expensive, and pointless. The pointlessness of both systems (either male of female asexual reproduction), means that unless someone really doesn't like the natural order of things, it will never happen.

The more reasonable use cases of such technologies, would be first to control our evolution. Essentially gene editing to add in traits desired or required for different environments. Our current technology is however quite limited in this regard. The more viable pursuit would be the second one, replacing women's gestational role with artificial means. Gestation pods are actually quite possible, and will probably be in use by the next century. This will essentially be an extension of in-vitro fertilization, and would make it possible for almost anyone to have kids. With it, single parenthood in men will not only be possible, it will also be definite. This freedom, would enable us to truly go our own way. The same can be said for women, they will probably be able to pursue their careers more sustainably. Plus, they will stop traumatizing their children with complaints of how painful giving birth to them was.

With the implementation of gestation pods, population figures will of course go up, and the family unit dynamics will change. Such things as Breastfeeding might become a relic of the past, as synthetic options are provided. It could also open up new careers for women, if the hormones responsible for milking can be synthesized and activated. But these are the small picture stuff.
Big picture, gestation pods could be used in interstellar travel. So that together with vitrification, reproduction cells are collected and kept in stasis for a few millennia. When this colony ship nears the target star system, automatons (all kind of robots and automatic systems) will begin colony initialization. Part of which would be activating reproductive systems. If these children are then schooled in the ways of mankind, we would be able to expand earth life other stars...all without needing FTL drives and such.

Of course, we first have to evolve to the point where foolish feminist statements like the above are not commonplace. The future is always bright.
