women want to be with a winner, thats what it means.

though social status is mostly just a euphemism for financial status in most cases. if someone is making 300k they're probably placed fairly high up in a network of successful people, have interesting experiences, are used to getting respect, and basically come off as more of a winner than some sales dude working at Best Buy

there's some cases of someone being broke and high status, like a really good artist, or rich and no status, like a lottery winner, but for the most part it just means 'a successful man' and in our society $$$ = success

Depends on what you're referring to in regards to social status.

Everyone has a social status associated with the class that they're currently in.

Most people care about maintain the class that they're born into and not going below that state.

Thus, most people date and marry people within their respective class. Meaning that people in poverty date/marry other people in poverty, academics date/marry other people in academia, high society date/marry other people in high society.

People choose partners that reflect their values and will be accepted among their peers.

Most people do not date or marry interclass. A person in poverty isn't going to date/marry someone that is absolutely destitute, a person in academia isn't going to date/marry a person with zero intellectual curiosity and/or someone who doesn't value education. a high society person isn't going to date/marry a person in poverty.

Of course there are exceptions, however, these exceptions are often failures and people who pair outside of their class have a lower success rate of maintaining the relationship.

Most people prefer where they are on the ladder, they don't want to go below. If they're capable of climbing a rung or two, they will, but most people aren't, so they stay in their societal position and pair with other people who share the same spot on the ladder.
