The issue is people misinterpreted “be yourself”, hence why it’s perceived as poor advice.

How does one be themselves? Who is “yourself”. Yourself is defined by your environment, experiences, relationships, successes, failures, achievements, education, childhood, goals, aspirations, etc. If youre some unemployed obese basement dweller then being yourself wont work. However, if that same person decided that tomorrow he’s going to start training to climb mount everest and achieves such a feat in 3 years, then what does “yourself” mean to that person? Does being himself still mean he’s a obese basement dwelling who plays video games all day? I doubt it.

The point is, when people say be yourself, it means to be confident and unapologetic in the ways that reflect who you are. Not to pretend to be someone else like if youre a video gamer and youre out pretending to be frat bro

The first advice should be reworded to say be honest/authentic for the sake of clarity.

This way it is in harmony with the second.

As for the third, confidence is attractive, and how you carry yourself conveys your confidence, which looks are a part of. I partially agree, but obviously more muscles will come off as more confident.

Edit: you can also edit the first one to say just be your best self.
