38 Dead in Migrant Detention Center fire. "There was smoke everywhere. They let the women out and the migration staff, but it wasn't until the firefighters arrived that they let the men out."

How concerned are you that primarily men will be expected to fight in the next World War?

"There will be a six-week ceasefire in Gaza starting today, if Hamas agrees to release the default defined category of vulnerable hostages: the sick the wounded, elderly and women. " Because everyone knows that male hostages are completely invulnerable. Like Power Rangers, injured but never killed.

It's infuriating that this issue only became newsworthy to the BBC because a girl was strip searched. The majority of the article features her experience (which was horrifying and definitely deserves attention) but has only 1 line about the 95% of boys that this also happens to buried deep at the bottom of the article.

Many of these boys were searched without their guardian being notified and without the appropriate chaperones present. It's a shame that the only time people show empathy is when women are involved.

The sexist pigs (article author and Commissioner of Children) complaining about this are total misandrists, ignoring the majority of victims because of their male sex, and concentrating on female victims because they are female, like themselves. The hypocracy of these sexist pigs is overwhelming, but invisible to the sexist UK community.

Its BBC. What did you expect?

Not to be completely evil.

They literally fired a large number of their male employees because they were male a couple of years ago. Never mind skill, hours worked, viewer perception, or percentage of candidates who actually apply for the jobs, it's gotta be 51% women because anything higher than 50% men can only be sexism.

Women are the new ruling class and members of the lower class are not entitled to the respect that is demanded for the members of the ruling class.

How are child strip searches legal whatsoever

That thought did take a bit longer to filter through the "95% boys? and there's 1 girl that made this newsworthy?", but... that's a very good question. Who the hell sanctioned this, and under what pretence? That's literally bad-people-prison treatment, not school kid treatment (even if some of them are badly misbehaved).

If you suspect something that would require this, it'd better be a damn good reason (a bit of weed is not a good reason, a concealed weapon might be), and proper process had better be adhered to. Going around groping and ogling schoolkids because you reckon they might be hiding a spliff up their arse is completely disproportionate and very, very questionable.

"According to the latest Met Police figures, analysed by the children's commissioner for England, 650 children were strip-searched by police in London between 2018 and 2020.
More than 95% of those children were boys, and 58% of the boys searched were black.
In one year - 2018 - 75% of the boys searched were black."

And yet it's not in the headline!

650 seems extremely low for a massive city like London I feel like the police are under reporting their figures because they aren’t a very successful way to catch criminals

There are various reasons why some strip searches may be underreported, including administration mishandling.

So perhaps the problem is even worse.

I suppose, if I'm being optimistic, there's an argument for hooking people in with "oh no, the poor little girl" and then bait and switching that with actual facts about the numbers.

But I'm not that optimistic, and given the way pictures of women and girls are used in all other contexts in news media, I don't see why this would be an exception. It's the same old "thousands die, including four women" crap.

One thing I learned in highschool is that a female isn't getting strip searched without a female cop being the one to do it if it's even done. I've actually watched one girl hide some prescription drugs in her breasts once before a cop came and pulled her from class to search her.
