I was sitting on a park bench, as I do more often. A pretty young woman with a dog walked by. Suddenly she was joined by a very tall, nervous man who looked for a stick to throw away so the dog could fetch it. A few minutes later, she walked by again. I talked to her and she said: ‘I’m in a hurry. There was a very strange man and he came very close.’ Still later, she walked by again. To my relief she said: ‘It all ended well. And I don’t believe it was a bad man, just very strange.’ I agreed with her and liked her very much for that. She could have suggested something about toxic masculinity or harassment culture, but she didn’t. She had been upset, but still could see the things as they were.
