Well he wasn't wrong 19 years ago when this interview happened, and he's still not wrong today.

Consider the extreme success of the Law and Order franchise (including all spinoffs) and the fact that from 1990 to today, 32 years later, these shows are still part of the US pop culture landscape. Hell, the original show was revived earlier this year after being canceled for 12 years and a new season of it is about to kick off later this month. Meanwhile, two other spinoffs of it are still running and virtually the entire franchise is in syndication and has been for as long as I can remember.

Given that sort of longetivity and saturation I wonder what the nature of this show has done for the perception of "white men" as evildoers...

Yep, i always find it hypocritical how "pressure groups" and ID police/SJW's/etc want more "diversity and representation", etc so they want more people in film and tv shows in various positions. They want more black/gay/female/etc as main characters, the heroes, etc...

The flip side is they don't want the "rest of reality", they don't want more of the SAME demographics represented as bad guys, as people killed, etc.

All of the authority, none of the responsibility!

E.G. you make a show/film that accurately represents the demographic of black violence, and suddenly you hear cries of "reinforcing harmful stereotypes" o.O

Why isn't it "problematic" to "reinforce harmful stereotypes" when you portray straight, white, men as inherently flawed, toxic, people ?

Violanece against women is always decried, by violence against men is socially acceptable?

Witness how many comedies shame, and humiliate, masculinity with women slapping men, and men getting kicked in the genitals, etc.

Witness any "disposable army", any army/police/SWAT team, any "bad guys" and they're ALL men, slaughtered in multiple ways, by their 10's and 100's.

They want "quotas" (race/gender/sexuality/etc) for army, police, firefighters, etc but they don't want those same quotas to be "represented" when portraying death, and suffering, of the same police, firefighters, army, etc in entertainment ?

All of the authority, none of the accountability.

Witness Game of Thrones (see sources) where there were countless articles written about the "misogyny" and "treatment of women", where women are raped and treated badly, yet not a single shred of awareness of the fact 100's of men were killed, roasted alive, castrated, etc but "OH no! we can't have even a tiny minority of women suffer!".

Even right now with the "House of the Dragon", it's already happening again !

Watch any "empowered women" film/tv show" and notice how any time a women asserts herself, it's always at the expense of a man, she'll belittle him, verbally and/or physically.

Watch any action movie/TV show with a female lead, and notice how she can only assert herself against male enemies, never a single female enemy, and even if there is a female enemy she is rarely disposed of as severely as a male would be.

Male lead = kills and incapacitates dozens of male enemies.

Female lead = kills and incapacities dozens of male enemies.

Strange imbalance eh ?

They want you to fantasise a 120lb woman can beat 200lb male enemies, but can't stretch that fantasy to think there would also be female enemies ?

It's almost like they only want "diversity and inclusion" when it benefits women.

They want "reality" but they want only the cherry-picked parts that make them feel better.

Sorry, no representation without taxation, you don't get to empower yourself at the expense of shitting on another demographic, in this case half the planet's men.

This must be what privilege looks like. Leave out "rich" and this applies to modern day. Also applies to real life, not just television, which doesn't exist in a vacuum.

I don't know... I work in marketing and PR. Rich white guys ARE their own pressure groups. They hire PR firms and marketing firms to manufacture social pressure all the time.
