That's a good description of what's happening now. But no clue about the cause

Is this gamma bias observable in other cultures? In past civilizations?
Does this stem from a fashion? From a friend/foe response? From in-group/out-group busses?
Is this observable in other aspects of society? Is it a sign of power? (I.e. do we see this gamma bias in other contexts, e.g. ethnic groups, wealth classes, etc..)?
