Recently turned 21 and started going to clubs. My first few times I've kind of just followed my friends, bobbed my head, and didn't go after any women. I've just found it really hard to get in the same mood as all the other people there and just let loose. I have a pretty stoic personality and demeanor, and I just can't seem to shake it. I know the suggestion for most people is alcohol, but as the son of 2 alcoholics, I'm deathly afraid that I'm genetically at risk of becoming one myself. The few times I've gone to clubs so far, I've been the DD and will just get a water with lime at the bar. It sucks because I went out with my friend (his first time clubbing), who is extremely shy, and after downing a fireball he was completely OK with approaching people and talking to people. I know I sound like a pussy, but I could use some advice.

I guess my main questions here are:

  • How do you get into the mood at the club while sober? Is it impossible, does it take practice, how can I improve.

  • What are some reliable IOIs on the dance floor I should look for? I know obviously smiles+eye contact and them getting into your vicinity. When a girl is dancing in front of you turned the other way and starts backing up towards you, is that an invitation?
