So this is a really important part she glosses over. Initially, she would look for a guy that she really connected with. But usually these guys usually only lasted a few days or weeks before she or he ended it.

That became too painful, so now she just dates for "fun".

Here's the thing: finding a lifelong partner is *hard*. Yes, you will meet a bunch of people who are not right for the longterm, and it can/will be a painful process of investing time in potential partners, and having your heart broken when someone you were hopeful about turns out to not be The One (or even worse, they are The One but they don't want you). As difficult as this process is, it's the only one that gives you even a shot at longterm happiness. The only other alternative is to go back to the times of patriarchy, and let your Dad vet your suitors and pick one for you.

But this woman, instead of recognizing that the heartbreak is an unfortunate part of the process, has decided to give up and go for short term fun. Even she recognizes that A is not the one for her. And by being so standoffish with J (not only no sex, but likely no real emotional intimacy or involvement for risk of getting hurt), she risks alienating him (desirable guys who have experience with women can tell when a woman isn't into them and will move on, especially if he's not even getting any sex out of it).

In the end, she's trading long-term happiness for short-term fun, because it's just too much work to find that long-term happiness. Unfortunately for her, that short-term fun doesn't last (hence why it's short-term), and eventually, she'll be left with neither.

It's sort of like exercising: learning a new sport or activity (even stuff like lifting) involves work, occasional injury, and spending precious time away from other activities. But with all that, it's the only way to longterm health. If you decide after the first time you get sore after lifting, or your chest hurts after running, that you're going to stop exercising and just watch TV instead, then yeah, short term you won't get injured or feel soreness anymore, but longterm, you'll become unhealthy and face far larger problems. Indeed, the longterm pain from an unhealthy body is far, far worse than the short-term pain of exercising.

I find it interesting that she says

but nowhere in the story does she give the impression that shes been passed around. She was loyal and hopped from one guy to another and was loyal and then decided to date.

The other thing I found interesting is

"Also to be clear I have only had sex with A and my ex"

We all know how this one pans out. Eventually she'll sleep with "J" and it won't be as good as the sex with "A" who has been regularly banging her for the last 6+ months. At this point she'll decide that J isn't going to work out either and she'll break it off.

Eventually she'll find out that for A she's just another on his regular rotation, he'll move on and that will end too.
