I saved an amazing post from /u/DemolitionMatter with a huge number of links to studies and other resources on crime and disparities regarding how men are treated by law enforcement and the courts. The links related to longer prison sentences are found in the last section titled: "Why men are disproprtionately incarcerated".

I'll list the most relevant ones out in a bit more research-friendly format for you.

Estimating Gender Disparities in Federal Criminal Cases (2012)

Here's an excerpt from the conclusion of this study:

This study finds dramatic unexplained gender gaps in federal criminal cases. Conditional on arrest offense, criminal history, and other pre-charge observables, men receive 63% longer sentences on average than women do. Women are also significantly likelier to avoid charges and convictions, and twice as likely to avoid incarceration if convicted. There are large unexplained gaps across the sentence distribution, and across a wide variety of specifications, subsamples, and estimation strategies.

An excerpt from the above article:

Male offenders are significantly more likely to be convicted of first degree murder than are female offenders. This effect is observed for all cases, for trial cases alone, and for cases adjudicated by guilty pleas. Gender of victim also affects charge of conviction in all analyses. Defendants who kill females have a significantly greater chance of being convicted on the most serious charge than do those who kill males.

In any event, our results indicate that both male killers and killers of females are at greatest risk of severe sanctioning.

Female offenders and victimizers of males have a comparatively good chance of being convicted on a criminal charge less than that of first degree murder.

About the only important item this great post misses is the subject of proxy violence, which is the name given to the common practice of women using "proxies" to commit violence, such as manipulating male friends or family, weaponizing institutions like law enforcement or family courts (this tactic is very widespread nowadays), leveraging social media to harass and harm a target, plus other avenues. Unfortunately, there is not a lot of research on this, but there is at least one well known example of this in the case of Michael Fife, a homeless man who was beat to death after a woman lied to her brother about him sexually assaulting her – these continued accusations were subsequently disproved by CCTV footage – with the only known punishment for the crime being 30 days incarceration given to the brother. Also, here is a video by Dr T. Hasan Johnson with more discussion of the subject of proxy violence, focused specifically on its prevalence within the black male community.
