This isn't my story but it's just so messed up. I am active duty in the Army (11B) and I got too talking to one of my fellow soldiers in my platoon. He's finally finalizing his divorce and I was happy for him but didn't know the exact circumstances of what caused the divorce. He and his soon to be ex wife started dating a year or two before getting married and were together for about 6 months when he discovered she was cheating on him with another soldier in our platoon who got out shortly after discovering this (lucky for him). She left with the soldier she was cheating on her husband with and so the husband started the divorce paperwork which she promptly avoided for about a year before he finally paid a private investigator to serve the papers to his wife. He was finally able to talk with the Army's lawyers and they drew up the divorce settlement. For context hey have no kids, they were both living with their parents before he enlisted, they had nothing before hand and really not much after. This woman cheats on her husband with another soldier, purposefully avoided getting served, and she gets full military medical benefits, and he has to pay her 800 dollars a month out of his own pocket because she decided to leave for her new boy toy (thats about 40% of his take home pay). As a teenager my parents got divorced and it was a terrible messy divorce and I watched my mom strip everything my father had to his name and seeing the Army do this to their own soldiers when they did nothing wrong makes me lose a lot of respect and faith in my Army.
