It’s about par for the course. The kid is struggling to find his identity as most teenagers do. The problem is that the internet has given a platform to extremist douchebags on all sides. Dude number 1 probably never even served in the military because “he was TOO badass” and now spends his time as a keyboard commando trying to gaslight 15 y/o kids. Dude number 2 just seems like a total femboy who’s gf threatened to peg him unless he “fights the patriarchy by her side.” He’s a fucking kid. Give him some space and ffs stop judging him. For all anyone knows, in 3 years time is ends up being harder than nails as far as fortitude is concerned

My oldest son had a kidney transplant , can't tell anything is wrong with him by looking at him, but due to his medication daily regiment he couldn't join any branch.

Military has always been this way. They have strick regulations .

That's how you proceed to fabricate a sour man. I hope he has the fortitude to overcome all of this, but we all know how many men are truly broken by this kind of stuff. And he might very well! I think a quality we men have is how intellectually detached we can become. I don't mean indifferent. I mean that eventually, we can learn to take one or several steps back to judge the situations we're facing. Otherwise, we would all burst up.

And maybe, in a world of hysterics such as this one, a world of the offended in need of safe spaces, of blue haired, fountain-pierced ego queens, of fanatical preachers of a new godless faith, moral integrists at war with past and present, maybe this is just the greatest intellectual and moral quality there is.

I tried joining the US Navy and got medically discharged at basic training. But since this is in the UK, I'm not sure what all their government branches in terms of military or paramilitary organizations. Here in the US we have the Merchant Marines which I am looking into joining here in a few years so possibly there are something like Merchant Marines in the UK. But being a firefighter isn't a bad idea either. Firefighters are pretty badass too and I was looking into becoming one however I have bad depth perception so that eliminated that idea sort of.

I really think we could do a lot more about addressing men who feel less of themselves if they are incapable of joining the military because they aren't. Firefighters are heroes as well and they put their lives on the line to save others, save buildings from being completely destroyed, and they even save the wildlife if there are wildfires to put out. I recall hearing of some pretty badass and heroic stories that many firefighters go through like firemen and firewomen both catching people and children that fall from very high places. Yes there is adrenaline and PSTD but at the end of the day the firefighters are still badass people who are heroes.

The military is extremely strict in their acceptance, that kid probably needs therapy, not a Reddit post. He should be told that his dream of a job in those fields are perfectly fine, however they shouldn’t be associated with manliness, his self worth needs to come from himself, not a job.

This is precisely why young men need mentors and positive male role models. He needs men in his life who can show him that being in the military isn’t the only way to be masculine. This is purely hypothetical but let’s say a man in the military is a dead beat dad. Is he more manly than a guy who wasn’t able to join the military, has children, handles his responsibilities and provides for his family? Just because his idea of manliness is wrong doesn’t mean he needs to be berated for it. He needs to be shown how his logic is flawed and helped back onto a healthy path for his future. That’s also assuming you think his ideas are wrong and that’s just each individuals opinion.
