Brown stated that she would have wanted the foot to be amputated if it had been her in the man's situation

Ah, I see... So that makes it ok then?

What she should get: charged with grievous bodily harm, stripped of all nursing qualifications, held without bail and sentenced at least 15 years in prison, no parole

What she'll get because of female privilege: paid leave, bail the equivalent of a few months rent, a stern talking to, a finger wagged at her and maybe two court mandated sessions with a mental health professional and returning to work

His right foot remained attached to his leg by a tendon and roughly 2 inches of skin. She let the intrusive thoughts win.

She will face no punishment. If it were a man he would be put in prison for life.

This is insane. The man needed serious medical attention, just because a person is in hospice doesn’t mean that they don’t get medical care for serious issues. People misunderstand the point of hospice care, and all of you who defended this nurse have no idea what you’re talking about.

Annie Wilkes is back at it, it seems.

Not as bad as cutting off a healthy part of a newborn baby's penis, for which there is no defense.

I don’t see the crime here. Legally, you need criminal intent or negligence to be convicted.

The leg was effectively amputated and unsalvageable already.

She believed she was acting in the best interest of the patient and this wasn’t a hospital, so doctors are probably less available.

What she did was wrong. Civil action and losing her profession is enough.

I get this isn’t what people here want to hear and we’re talking about a woman. However, the burden of proof for criminal cases is high. If the foot couldn’t be saved, what exactly is she charged with?

The intent is her making this decision alone when she had no authority.

.

She believed she was acting in the best interest of the patient and this wasn’t a hospital, so doctors are probably less available.

Then she doesn't do anything that's out of her training.

Exactly, but we get frustrated over the extremely prominent charge gaps and begin applying it even at the wrong times. A normal human response. Also medical ethics are very complex and I don't think most people here including myself can really comment on it.

what. in. the. actual. fuck.

This is odd, why wouldn't a doctor have performed the amputation? I've cared for people with gangrene, it's horrific and the smell. . . When it's the foot, toes fall off and we would have to put them in urine collection cups. With his foot hanging by a thread, it makes the most sense to remove it and bandage the wound. But WTF didn't a doctor do it? How long had he laid there with a black foot dangling, infection seeping more and more into the body? Yeah, he was dying any but still, the fuck. That's seriously sick and inhumane.
