The reason they don't agree is simple--they are primping to compete against other women for male attention, whether they admit it or not. So, in their minds, men are the root cause of this drive.

No one, women especially, want to admit that they are out of control, so the concept that humans even have a lizard brain that pulls strings "behind the scenes" is rejected. Oddly, the idea that men are somehow magically controlling this situation is far more agreeable.

We all make our own choices, and even though those choices are often heavily influenced by our lizard brain, the choices are still our own and we are responsible for them. Oh, yeah, responsibility--the other side of the coin. We want control, but not responsibility, but they are two sides of the same coin.

I don't get why this matters. Obviously blaming it on men isn't right but what's the point of blaming it on women? I'm a woman and I don't feel like I set unrealistic expectations, and you probably don't feel like you do either. There's no point in blaming either group en masse.

I remember seeing a study on makeup. The majority were wearing it not to improve their sexual attractiveness but to improve their confidence or impress people.

So this seems like an accurate observation to me.
