Trend I noticed on /r/worldnews about news from India

Like it or not, a story about someone being abducted and gang raped is always going to be a bigger headline than one about someone being slandered or abused by the legal system.

Even without the feminist narrative surrounding reporting on rape in India, this would be the case. "If it bleeds, it leads" is one of the media's most potent biases.

The utter silence concerning this post is troubling. This man nearly lost his job and his reputation and no one gives a damn. Is it because it is against the narrative, the narrative constructed by those who control public opinion? False accusations are not part of the story. Are people on Reddit mindless manipulable drones? Perhaps and Chomsky & Bernays were right.

I unsubscribed from that sub months ago. It was becoming a rape of a single individual every other submission, which isn't exactly "WorldNews" or any where close to major news. To me it seemed like it got taken over by some group bent on setting up some agenda.

People have the perception that India is a very backwards country with regards to women's rights. This is reinforced by the outrageous things that do make it in the popular news. This may even be further exacerbated by the large Muslim population in India, being about half the population of the US in Muslims alone, which are culturally very non-Western in their approach to human rights (religion before reason).

As a result, people are more likely to think that the judging body in the recent story was anti-women's rights, and chose to favour the man instead of uphold the rights of the women.

What actually happened isn't for us to determine, because we aren't there, we don't know all the details, and the media is notoriously biased in its reporting.

It's a fascinating subject to study.

Basically most of urban India is little more than a gigantic open sewer infested by starving criminals over whom the government has no control whatsoever.

The Indian govrnment is sensationally corrupt but they want more than anything else to be taken seriously as a nation, so they adopt what they see as 'western' initiatives in order to fit in.

That's how they're able to claim billions in aid to help starving millions and run a space program. It's why they rebrand their unchecked legions of criminal scum running computer scams as "entrepreneurial".

But most of all in order to fit in they try to present themselves as egalitarian. They've studied how we do that and so of course have ended up implementing extreme feminism and openly, anti-male laws.

If anyone's wondered how our countries' claimed equality looks to outsiders, this is it. Instructive, isn't it?

Pretty much. Society and that the media pretty much care more about when the victim is female than male. You can conduct a little experiment in both /r/worldnews and /r/news and post news on male victims from various countries and see the sort of reactions it gets.
