Hey there MensRights. I'm writing to report that I've just filed for divorce from my verbally abusive wife and I couldn't be happier.

For 9 years I took torment from every direction on every subject from what I spent to what I wore. She controlled every aspect of my life...my friends, my money, my free time...everything.

Back in July I took her and the kids up to New York for what I thought was going to be a summer with her parents. I went back up in August to pick them up and we were to drive back to GA where we lived together. When I arrived I was informed that she was staying there and had plans to enroll the kids in school. I was to quit my 6 figure job and get one up in New York.

The following two months were spent trying to find work. I couldn't find anything remotely close to the salary I'm making here, and I refused to sell myself short by taking a lesser position. I was willing to make some concessions on salary, but I certainly wasn't going to take a 33-50% pay cut just to hurry up and get there.

My friends and I packed all of our belongings on to a moving truck as I still had the intention of moving up there. I spent the majority of my time boxing, inventorying and labeling everything. Then we packed it in a weekend and received a berating for not leaving immediately after the packing was done. I spent the next two days driving over 800 miles in a moving truck to deliver our goods to my wife and children (who were and still are living with her parents.) When I arrived, the mother of my children greeted me with a "Oh, I see you're wearing my favorite pants" sarcastic remark, as I was wearing a very comfortable pair of jeans, seeing as I was driving so far.

I proceeded to unload nearly the entirety of the truck by myself (aside from about an hour of assistance from her father for the large items.) When finished, I took care of the truck and returned to my in-laws to spend time with my wife and kids as we were preparing for my daughter's birthday party.

In the following 3 days, I received no thank yous, no hugs, no affection...nothing. Depressed and defeated, I fell into a shell and would talk to no one. When questioned about why I was upset, my wife would respond that she had no idea why I was mad.

She approached me about it, where I said I was upset she hadn't thanked me for moving our things almost entirely by myself. She made it a point (actually, the focus) that her 70 year old father helped me unload the truck. That was true...for about 1 hour out of the 11 it took me, but I digress. She also said she didn't HAVE to thank me because it was a move I wanted anyway (it wasn't.)

I could go on but this is running long. I'll shorten it up.

I filed in GA before she met the residency requirement in NY (Where the support laws are less advantageous for fathers). I have witnesses here that can attest to her nastiness if need be.

I know the road will be long and hard. I'm not scared though, I'm happy. I have supportive friends (that helped me cover the costs of the lawyer) and family that will keep me strong. I have a plan and a very good lawyer. It's not going to be gum drops and rose petals, but I'm ready for it.

Thanks for reading. If you have questions I'll try to answer them. If there's a lawyer that thinks I've said too much, let me know and I'll nuke this post.

Have fun.
