As harried as TEPCO may be, they've managed to shore up the foundation of building 4, rebuild the gantry required to manipulate rod assemblies, and has long last just recently started moving the spent fuel rods from the storage pool there to dry storage casks. It is very important for Japan and the world that those rods be removed from a sudden potential disaster, like an earthquake that kills the cooling in building 4, or worse collapses the building.

Yes, it sucks that the least valued members of society are the ones that get tapped for the most lethal jobs, but in this case -- as regrettable as it is -- I'd much rather they do it, than not.
