To play devil's advocate: If you multiply the "1 in 125 women" are raped per year (which they only got bit a blatant abuse of statistics in the first place) by the ~35 or so years of her life that a woman has a high likelihood of being raped (lets say, between the age of 10 years old to 45 years old) you would get something close to the 1 in 4 statistic that they commonly cite.

Although using more realistic statistics of the study of 3 large universities that shows a 1 in 1877 chance for a woman to get sexually assaulted while they are in college. And if you think about it, that 1 in 1877 statistic came from the time when women are (on average) MOST vulnerable to these sort of attacks. So if I were to guess the number is a lot closer to 1 in 80 over their lifetime, or so

It is really going to come down to how the study in question defines 'rape'.
