That's not the point.

I'm not saying she should be reported so we can out this woman as a paedophile and make sure she never works with children again. I'm saying it should be reported because it's not appropriate and so it can be dealt with. Perhaps by asking her to remove the status, making sure there's some discussion that's gone on about why it's not appropriate and ensuring that it was nothing but a silly status.

Imagine if three months down the line it turned out she was sleeping with one of her students. Can you imagine the outcry there would be about why nothing had been done earlier? This way the school can at least say they responded appropriately given the information at the time. No, it's not fair to accuse her of being a child molester, but it is fair to punish her for what she has done, which is to say something grossly irresponsible which is associated with both herself, her pupils and the education facility as a whole.

And if you had gone around telling people three months earlier how much you felt like killing your neighbour sometimes, that wouldn't be considered significant at all in the circumstances?

It's not a direct equivalence because technically people can moan about their neighbours and every suggestion that you want to kill someone is 90 percent of the time not going to be genuine.

But this woman has an employer and a responsibility not only to that employer but to her pupils, and as such they probably have a strict social media policy just like most employers do these days.

Again, if you sent someone a message saying you were going to murder them you wouldn't be charged as a murderer, you'd be charged with harassment or abusive texts. If she posts an inappropriate status, she should be punished for doing so even if it's just a warning (which seems appropriate) but the school cannot be seen to not act on this just because they don't want to put anyone's nose out of joint.

She did something wrong, it shouldn't be ignored.

Well I understand how poorly worded I did that. I should have double checked it, before posted it. However, my point wasn't at all irrational.

I took the example and increased the severity of the act throughout everything. That came to a logical conclusion. You then tone down the severity of the crime and you still have the same logical conclusion. This isn't them saying it to their priest or therapist asking for help. They're not asking for help. They're saying it, like it's no big deal that they feel like that and have no shame for it.

You could tone down it for an example you might find more acceptable.

I think about getting a doughnut every single day when I pass my local doughnut shop. Man, I really think about getting that doughnut, it looks amazing. I'm going to get that doughnut tomorrow when I have free time.

Change doughnut to child. It's now a crime. What do you do to prevent crime? You report it.
