This sounds like the start of a counter witch hunt.

Don't do it.

I think the Principal bears the principal responsibility, as head of the school management team. He was the one who spoke out to the news media, before he started "declining to comment" that is. If it really were down to a female assistant, vacuous, vicious, and uncaring or unconscious of the consequences, then he should have interceded and put her in her place. If it were, that is. There's more than one assistant there.
