Educate a man and you've taught a man, educate a woman and you've taught a generation.

Employ a woman and you provide for a woman. Employ a man and you provide for a family.

Both statements imply an appalling selfishness to an entire gender. Both are sexist generalizations.

The only situation I can see this not being sexist as fuck is in some crappy 3rd world country where only men are educated. There, educating 1 more man doesn't do much, but starting to educate women as well would be quite important. This would absolutely not apply to any western countries, or even most 3rd world countries.

Educate and individual and you have taught an individual. What that individual chooses to do with that knowledge is dependent upon many different factors including genetics, upbringing, and culture.

In the Journal of Discourses ( http://jod.mrm.org/1/66 ) he speaks about education and the five and half pages there can be summed up--albeit incompletely--in the OPs quote.

But, he points out the father is a necessary part of the family dynamic.
