About to start a custody battle in Georgia. I could really use some advice.

It is insane to give someone full access to your bank account, much less an ex. Stop that immediately.

Frankly, if they can afford good lawyers and you cannot, then the legal route does not sound promising. You have already accepted the status quo of the mother having custody and you having no written legal rights. A court is unlikely to overturn the precedent that you have already set.

I would say try to play nice and negotiate with the mother and grandfather. Convince them that her child is better off with a father in its life.

Good luck. It will take time, dedication, evidence, and perseverance. Try to get some money together and screen lawyers for their experience in fighting for men's custody cases.

Get an attorney.
Verify paternity. Don't just take her word for it.
Cut her off your bank account.
Don't talk to her or her father more than necessary. Especially be careful about appearing violent or angry or pushy. She'll have no problem claiming harassment on your part.
Respond to all court documents and attend all court hearings.
Get an attorney.

Try to be the good guy and let them expose themselves as unreasonable assholes.

Don't give her any money unless it's documented, otherwise you might be stuck with back-paying support that you already payed.

Why are you giving your ex access to your bank accounts when her dad is the 1%? You think you are doing the right thing but its quicker to clear out your bank account after an argument (With a card you voluntarily gave her!) than it is to cancel her access. As mentioned, cut that out

The main concern is that your daughter is 20 months old and most states love to adopt (Though they don't like to claim they still do) the Tender Years Doctrine. Your little girl is too young for 50/50 care on your days off and instead, you would be best suited to have shorter, regular visits with her. A judge will most likely grant this but not if your ex's dad can pony up the cash to hire the best lawyer in town before you lawyer up.

The two most important things here are two 1) cancel that card and don't pay any child support until you are court-ordered to do so (You think you are doing the right thing but that's $$$ that could go to lawyer fees and it isn't illegal to do so when you are threatened in such ways) and; 2) Lawyer up.

Here is the million dollar question: are you on the birth certificate for your daughter?

If you are and you cant hire an attorney .............You need to respond to their court papers yourself when they serve them on you. If the process is anything like my state, the papers will have the directions on how to respond printed right on them. Also, the court may have a family law facilitators office that offers free help on filling out court forms.

Show up at the hearings. Tell the judge what you want. You might want to mention what your ex's father said about doing everything possible to keep your daughter from you.

If they are currently keeping you from seeing your daughter and you are legally recognized as the father, you should go talk to an attorney because the family law courts might make her pay your attorneys fees. So the attorney might take your case without any down payment , hoping to get her to pay.

If you are not on the birth certificate? You need to file a paternity case ....this is beyond the scope of this comment ....

When you are in front of the judge pepper your sentences with it is for the good of the child to have two loving parents. Children who have two parents do better than those who have one parent
