One must wonder how many potential allies you have alienated by choosing inflammatory tactics over educational ones.

You just have the look at the history of the movement back when it tried to be educational and gain allies, all it got was exclusion, sneering, false accusations and "what about teh menz, lol!!

It only started making progress after it became like normal social movements, angry and inflammatory.

Oppression is for feminists. Mens Rights addresses the issues that men face, for examples see the sidebar.

Part of the reason for you receiving down votes is probably because one aspect of Mens Rights is an aversion to Tone Policing; it is cousin to censorship and neither are supported by Mens Rights. Open discussion, with an acceptance that many men feel they are stifled, that there are few outlets for their frustration and anger means Mens Rights is accepting of anger when it is displayed. Another reason is down votes can represent individual beliefs that the subject matter does not contribute to the discussion of Mens Rights.

As for isolation, /r/MensRights is only one of the sites I visit; I daresay this is true of other commenters here. Mens Rights hasn't attained mainstream, monolith status so it does appear to be scattered islands however members share membership.

Finally, commenters in /r/MensRights generally also push back against shaming language; it is seen as a tool used by feminists and gender ideologues to end debate and attempt to force compliance through emotional appeals rather than arguing with facts or logic.

There are a few problems with what you are saying.

The first is that there is no controlling body for MRAs in the vein of NOW. There is no central counsel, no lobbyists and no programs for MRAs.

So you can't expect that everyone will act the same.

The other problem is that it is really hard to agitate for Men's Rights. You are attacked on both sides from people you thought would be your allies.

Just look at the reaction in Toronto. It is much more fun to express your anger than to work for decades to accomplish what you want.

Even more problems arise when one of the most prominent MRAs has adopted a strategy of being purposely inflammatory to get attention.

It's worked but may backfire in the end.

And it is pretty hard to deny that feminists have been pretty hostile to MRAs in the past. Every MRA I know has had a bad experience with feminists. I just had a terrible one with a women's studies professor.

I do believe you are correct though. If we were less angry we would probably be able to get more done. The problem is that it isn't that simple.

So yes, you're getting downvoted because you come here with a holier than thou attitude, preaching from up high. You have added nothing of substance to this sub. These are the types of post that should get downvoted.

When you have constructed something meaningful to say. When you have attempted to understand your fellow human being. When you start to listen to us, instead of just accuse us of things. Then, perhaps, you should try again.

When you things that you think are "inflammatory rhetoric" perhaps comment there. Ask for clarification of what the person means, because right now you are just assuming the person's intention.

We don't all take sugar in our tea. We don't all have the ability to write about our feelings without conveying emotion. Many of us don't care to be PC. These are adult issues that get discussed in adult language so please don't chastise folks for how they present their stories and don't use your indignation to invalidate their experiences. That's how many feminists engage and it's bloody frustrating.

EDIT: Oh, and take your downvotes like a man rather than play the aggrieved victim card.

Anger and inflammatory rhetoric is vital for the success of any social movement, thats why they mens movement made the decision to get angry and inflammatory.
