Sometimes I get the inexplicable feeling that feminists are more concerned with stopping "victim blaming" than stopping victimization.

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Stopping actual victimization is the last thing feminists want. They need victims to stay in business.

They have as much interest in preventing female victimization as BP does in figuring out cold fusion.

I nailed one on this once.

He said there are rapists out there who wouldn't rape if they knew the woman wasn't consenting. Setting aside the stupidity of his assertion I said "then tell women to inform men when they're being raped to prevent these types of rapes."

He said, "that would be victim-blaming."

And I said, "so I suppose there is something worse than rape."

They really don't give a shit about stopping rape.

You should call it "abstinence only rape prevention"

I don’t get some people’s mindset?! The poster gives advice on how to stay safe, which any logical person would view as a good thing. If you see a sign on a beach saying “No swimming! Water is infested with people eating and hungry sharks.” then take it as advice to not swim with hungry sharks… it’s not meant to blame a victim.

Shitty things have happened to people in the past because of shitty people. Shitty things are happening to people right now because of shitty people. And tomorrow, more shitty things will happen to people because of other shitty people. The vast majority of people are nice and civil but there will always be shitty people who want to do shitty things and THAT WILL NEVER CHANGE. It’s a fact of life and people need to be educated and aware of how to avoid having shitty things happen to them.

Avoid becoming a casualty of war: duck when the enemy is shooting at you, maybe stand behind something bullet-proof, dig a proper foxhole, don't light up a cigarette at night, take basic common sense precautions.

-OMG WHY IS THE MILITARY SAYING WOUNDED VETERANS DESERVE TO BE SHOT!?!?!?!

[–]Aaod 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

The irony of military people or military spouses not understanding taking precautions is enough to burn. For gods sake you or your partner wear body armor in combat do they not? Or should is that victim blaming if they get shot when not wearing it during combat? Maybe these people should be wearing a different kind of helmet.

I'm sure the woman who posted that note is an outstanding infantry soldier. Tough, resilient, single-minded and utterly focused on performing to the best of her ability and protecting the lives of her fellow soldiers.

On the other hand, she might be an over-entitled cunt who's a complete fucking liability. Probably that actually.

I get it, because she's a woman!

@JDStephens012 thank you for your response to this poster, and for noting the high number of male victims. #malerape http://www.reddit.com/r/MensRights/comments/1jsprx/this_sexual_assault_poster_posted_at_a_military/

@JDStephens012 everyone should, however, take responsibility for self-protection. As any soldier knows, an effective defense isn't passive.

That first poster is just the normal military attitude towards threats and threat situations. It's quite telling that a female soldier would push back on that.

It should be in both bathrooms. Right?

[–]notnotnotfred 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

yes, but it's not likely that she posted it in a male-only area,

[–]Barrien 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They are.

You have to be trying to be in a situation where you can't see a SAPR poster on a military base these days.

[–]Dronelisk 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

On one hand, /r/blamethevictim (satirical)

On the other hand, she acknowledges the double standard, hmmm

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Giving anyone advice on anything is considered "victim blaming" and "mansplaining" by feminists.

Stop giving them advice or help.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's good that she pointed out the prevalence of male victims, though.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Instead of practicing victim blaming... how about you make a list of all the places that a victim can go to find safety and help in their time of crisis

Have you never heard of the saying "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."

The military goes in places where violence is much more common than in the US, so they always teach people how to be safe in these types of environments.

And finally, why not have both? Why does she expect everything to be a zero sum game, where the only thing that matters is her spreading her ideology?

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

blahblahblah.

I'm so glad my Dad taught me how to use a gun, watch my surroundings, and stay safe wherever I am. Some women refuse to rely on themselves, and would rely on all the other 6.9999 billion people in the world, not to misbehave.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If this woman has teenage kids I would love to see how her advice to them on protecting themselves differs from what is written.
