Child support can be awarded based off of earning potential, depending on where you are located, rather than off of actual earnings. Dave Foley is the perfect example of this.

He seems to think I will be paying child support based on my 185,000 salary and that it would look like I was being intentionally underemployed to avoid the larger child support burdens.

From what I've heard this is probably the case, but considering the quagmire that is child support in some states you might have a hard time getting a straight answer.

I'm always blown away by the reasoning here though. Does anyone really think that someone is going to intentionally get paid less in order to pay less child support? You would still end up with less money! It's like the dumbasses who say that celebrities and CEOs only give to charities for the tax write-off, as if they would somehow end up with more money by doing that.

Yeah, he's right...look up "imputed income". They'll say you can earn more, so you should. Congratulations, your life is no longer your own. You are about to begin your new life as a de facto indentured servant.

Fuck worrying about how much child support is. Sell your assets, move your money to safe havens overseas, and leave the country. The only person you are responsible for is yourself....unless of course you WANT to be a Dad.

Child support is good for those that don't abuse it but its abused in every sort of way. Child support should be based on the essentials of the child based on real world prices.

For some women, child support is just "Welfare 2.0"
