Hi All I have a kid on the way. Not married, paternity test just completed. I have a cushy job I hate.... It pays awesome.... But sucks my soul away. I met a family law attorney, he was very unsure about a lot things And I will be consulting with another

I want to quit my job (Geologist in oil and gas), and be a Geologist in the Envrionmental sector. Huge pay cut, but still makeing 60-80k starting out. He seems to think I will be paying child support based on my 185,000 salary and that it would look like I was being intentionally underemployed to avoid the larger child support burdens. Which Isnt why I want to do this.

Anyone have any experience in this? My thoughts are to make any changes before the kid is born.

I mean it bassically take the whole fun out of life....

What if I wanted to start my own business.... What if I was a floor trader whos average career is like 7 years and then they all quit from the insane stress but the made like 500k during the first job they had....
